Kiara Flowers has been named the George Krupanski Jr. 2024 Delaware Youth of the Year among seven other finalists. The Youth of the Year title is a prestigious honor bestowed upon an exemplary young person in recognition of leadership, service, academic excellence and dedication to live a healthy lifestyle. Now in its 77th year, the Youth of the Year program honors our nation’s most awe-inspiring young people on their path to great futures and encourages all kids to lead, succeed and inspire. This event was made possible by the generous support of our sponsors and supporters, who are dedicated to advancing our mission and ensuring the well-being of our youth.
“We are very proud of Kiara and all that she has accomplished during her time at the Club” says John Wellons, President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware. “I know that she will go on to do great things, and we are incredibly excited to watch her represent Delaware at regionals.”
Kiara is a sophomore at Del Castle Technical High School, and aspires to get her Bachelor’s in Physiology and Counseling Services. Described as passionate and determined, she isn’t afraid of hard work to achieve her goals. Having spent the past 11 years with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware, Kiara credits the Club and her mentors with providing her a space where she felt safe, supported, and loved.
“To say that I am proud is an understatement. Kiara is a beacon of unwavering confidence, brains, beauty, resilience, and perseverance. I hope this is a everlasting reminder to Kiara that anything she wants is obtainable as long as you give it 110% of effort! For me, this experience has truly been a reminder of my “why” and I’m looking forward to traveling to New York for the next steps.” says her mentor Paradise Hayle.
As the 2024 Delaware Youth of the Year, Kiara will go on to compete for the title of Northeast Regional Youth of the Year in June and an additional $20,000 in college scholarship. Five regional winners will advance to Washington, D.C. in September 2024, to compete for the title of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year will receive an additional scholarship of $50,000 and will have the opportunity to meet with the President of the United States in the Oval Office.
“My experience of winning has been very life changing. It has opened up many doors and opportunities that I would not have access to if I did not win. I promise to make a big impact on the world & the Boys & Girls Club of America. See everyone regionals! I am taking this one home!” says Kiara.
