STATE FARM RETURNS FOR ANOTHER YEAR TO SUPPORT BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF DELAWARE’S YOUTH OF THE YEAR AND JR. YOUTH OF THE YEAR
Wilmington, DE – State Farm, has recommitted to supporting Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware’s 2019 Youth of the Year. Like last year, they join a robust list of community partners for this annual event. Through the Good Neighbor Citizenship program, State Farm employees will serve as judges for the Jr. Youth of the Year program across the state as well as the Youth of the Year, Thursday, April 11, 2019 at The Queen in Wilmington.
Since 1931, Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware have played a vital role in helping transform the lives of thousands of young people across Delaware through positive interactions with caring adults and life-enhancing programs. Since 1947, the Youth of the Year program has been the Boys & Girls Clubs premier recognition program, providing the highest honor any member can receive.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware is pleased to announce that State Farm agents will be participating in eight Jr. Youth of the Year events around the state. The State Farm employees that participate in the Jr. Youth of the Year and State Youth of the Year as judges join a distinguished group of professionals, comprised of community, business, and educational and human service leaders.
Since coming on board, State Farm has embraced numerous opportunities to engage with Clubs throughout Delaware for the Jr. Youth of the Year program. In 2018, several State Farm agents participated as judges at the local Club level, supporting the Jr. Youth of the Year program in its second year. Additionally, Dwayne Redd, Public Affairs Field Specialist with State Farm, joined the notable panel of judges for the 2018 Youth of the Year
Youth of the Year Judges reflect the same high morals and character qualities demanded of Club members. They mirror the diversity of Club participants, in regards to cultural and ethnic make-up, as well as various backgrounds and career paths. Additionally their participation demonstrates to Club youth that our volunteers are strongly committed to their development as caring and productive citizens.
This year, State Farm agent Eric Kline of Seaford will join the panel of judges for Youth of the Year. Eric and the other judges will join the six Youth of the Year Finalists in Rehoboth Beach April 5-6 for the selection event weekend.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Judges:
Thoroughly review and score the Youth of the Year Application via the online judging portal prior to the Youth of the Year event, making notations about questions you’d like to ask nominees
Interview all nominees to verify and clarify the content of their application materials
Evaluate each candidate on poise and public speaking during the interview process and during public speaking opportunities
Develop a well-rounded assessment of each candidate prior to meeting as a group to make the final selection
Select, as a group, the most qualified finalist to serve as a role model and spokesperson for Delaware
