Matthew Miller

“Matthew would be proud that his family and friends continue to remember him by helping others through this fund.”

Matthew Miller died in 1997, three days before his 17th birthday, from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was a junior at the Sanford School in Hockessin, Delaware. Matthew was an honor roll student and an athlete. In both his freshman and sophomore years, he earned varsity letters in soccer, baseball, and wrestling. He swam for many years for a local swim team and was an avid golfer and skier.

More importantly, Matthew had a big heart and free spirit–he was a loving, caring, and sharing kid. He was a volunteer peer counselor and constant defender of the underdog (possibly because, for most of his life, he was shorter than his peers). His many, many friends came from diverse social, ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds and attended almost every high school in New Castle County.

The Matthew Miller Scholarship Fund, established in 1997 by Matthew’s family and friends, has provided more than $148,000 in academic scholarships and financial assistance to deserving Club kids.

Make a difference like Matthew.
