ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: AMANI CLARK

2012 STATE YOUTH OF THE YEAR, AMANI CLARK PACKS HER BAGS TO HEAD ACROSS THE POND TO PURSUE HER MASTERS IN MARKETING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WEST ENGLAND – OH, AND SHE’S ALSO PLAYING BASKETBALL FOR THEM TOO!

Amani first visited the Greater Newark Boys & Girls Club when she was just 3 years old; tagging along with her two older bothers Aaron and Terrance. Her brothers played basketball at the Club, and soon enough she followed in their footsteps. “I remember my first basket, I scored in the wrong hoop” says Amani laughing. Amani quickly improved her skills on the court, going on to become a standout player at Appoquinimink High School; a star player at Lincoln University; and now playing internationally with a chance to play professionally.

Amani feels like the Club has become just like family to her. During her time on the court playing basketball for Lincoln University, on multiple occasions, groups from the Club loaded into vans to come cheer her on.

Amani is thankful for her experiences at that the Club and credits her success to hours spent inside the Club, laughing with staff, coaches and friends. Amani hopes to see other youth take advantage of all the Club has to offer. “There are a lot of opportunities there and people to guide you to where you want to go, wherever that may be.”
