CAN I BECOME A MENTOR?

All it takes to become a mentor is your desire and ability to guide a child. When you apply, you’ll be interviewed, three references will be checked and your record will be reviewed for prior criminal activity. An orientation will educate you on the program’s goals and objectives, the basics of positive youth development, the ground rules for volunteers, a preview of the typical "life cycle" of an adult-youth relationship, communication tips and an introduction to the B&GCD facility, activities and program staff. You see, there’s nothing to it!

Become a Mentor today! Call (302) 658-1870.

Because we know your time is very valuable, we ask that you meet with the youth for only six hours per month during the school year. So, you could meet weekly or biweekly for one to two hours after school or even on Saturdays at the Club. It’s up to you and the youth! During the summer months (June, July and August), one special activity will be planned per month for about two to four hours for all the participants to enjoy.
